The other day as I was out shopping, I noticed that many of the people who were stockpiling up on toilet paper and water were also grabbing Ibuprofen. It seems like a smart move, right? One of the terrible symptoms of a virus is the high fever- caused by your body trying to raise its core temperature and fight the infection. Ibuprofen can be a great help for a fever. But- what happens when the World Health Organization tells you it may do more harm than good? So now what? With ibuprofen off the table for an option to reduce the fever, do you put a cool rag on your forehead and hope for the best? I have another option for you, that can do a lot more than you would expect.
As a young mom, I had a son that would get high fevers frequently. He was born with Down Syndrome, and that extra chromosome made it seem like his body had to fight harder against the sicknesses the rest of us pass through with no problem. Because of that extra chromosome, he also had a hard time swallowing pills or even liquid medications effectively. Hoping for a solution, with the advice of a friend, I got my doTERRA essential oil kit
As his next fever hit, I quickly looked through my essential oil guide under fever and found out what he needed.
I put a few drops of peppermint on the bottoms of his feet, and a few drops each of peppermint and lavender down his spine. I was amazed by how fast he cooled down, and I calmed down. That was a big WOW! for me, and yet another reason I started to believe and use essential oils. I hope that I can help you find these natural solutions in your home from what I learned to help you- fight the fever, fight the fear, and fight the sickness
2-3 drops of Peppermint can be diffused into the air to help cool a fever and/or help with congestion. Peppermint can be applied to your skin (you may need to add a carrier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil if your skin is sensitive)
2-3 Drops of Peppermint can also be placed a mug of warm water or a cup of water, or dropped under the tongue.
2-3 drops of Lavender can be added directly to the skin and/or air to calm the fever and calm you.
Now a great surprise-
2-3 drops of Clove with a little pure honey to a cup of hot water* and you will have a delicious and calming tea to fight your fever- and it causes.
Clove has more than just the benefits of fighting the fever. Clove has been used for years in dental preparations, candy, and gum for its flavor and ability to cleanse the mouth. Yet it provides a myriad of other benefits by being – anesthetic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal and antiviral. The powerful antioxidant properties Clove contains even supports cardiovascular health when taken internally. Basically, add a drop to your tea and it will- help fight any virus’ or bacteria your body is trying to push out, help the sore throat you have from coughing and calm your fever.
*add after water is heated, Do not boil water, may reduce the potency of clove tea
